I’ve taken a mini-break from blogging this last week. Believe me when I say, I was doing a serious “cleaning house” spree both emotionally and literally. One of the most important aspects of this journey, I’m beginning to see, is LOVE. Not only the love and support of family and friends, but also self-love.

Today is Valentines Day (obvs!) and I can’t think of a better time to appreciate and love myself :) A few bloggers have really inspired me to think about what I love about myself. Angela from Oh She Glows, who is seriously amazing, wrote an incredibly moving post this morning about her battle with losing and gaining love while battling her eating disorder.

Brittany and Colleen started a Valentine mission : to spread the love, one blog at a time. The task? Write yourself a love-letter. Celebrate yourself, inside and out! Read through my letter, and then write your own! Better yet, leave me a comment and tell me … What do you love about yourself?

Dear Emily

Let me start by saying the maybe-not-so-obvious fact : I Love You. I know that I might not always show it, and I’m sorry for that. I’ve spent too many years ignoring all your wonderful accomplishments and traits. No longer. From now on, we’re a team.

I love your ability to make people laugh. Your smile warms any room you enter. You always try to look on the bright-side of life. Whenever you’re happy, I’m happy. You are your most beautiful self when you’re just being yourself – goofy, care-free, and bubbly!

I love your body. It has carried you and supported you all these years. I love to see you treating it well. Your legs are so strong and resiliant. They help you walk, dance, and (Even though you thought it couldn’t happen) RUN. Your arms have comforted others, created music, and held your daughter.

Also, have you seen your hair? It pretty much kicks ass. Check out those purdy curls ;)

Pretty curls, miss pretty-face!! :)

Most importantly, I love your heart; your spirit. You never back down. I love that you rise against many challenges. Worked 3 jobs and a full-time student? Yeah, that was you. You get knocked down, and you get back up. Your spirit amazes me. Your heart is also creative – you sing, you write, you put it all out there. Never give up that adventurous nature!

Singing with you soulmate, the first night <3

Reading at the Ames Poetry Slam. You are fabulous – and have won TWICE. How many people can say that?

Never forget how much I love you. Love is all you need. This journey you’re on, is paved with LOVE. You don’t have to change to get love from me – I will always be there no matter what. Change to make all these things better. Change for a better life.

Always, Me.

This is a great letter and idea! I may have to put one together this weekend. It’s great to hear you see the wonderful aspects about you that are also very apparent to the people you know. It was a pleasure being your friend in Ames, you are special I haven’t met very many people as fun and interesting as you, and I am happy to read about you and your life. Thanks for the post.
