#1 thing I love about blogging (okay, that’s a lie. I think getting comments is my #1 love.) is being able to introduce you all to products that are helping me on my weight loss journey. A couple of months ago, while aimlessly roaming the baking section of HyVee (step away from the chocolate chips, Emily!) I stopped in front of the utensil section to find an excuse to purchase a new spatula/baking dish/meat thermometer/whateverIsaw. ;)

HyVee, a local grocery chain in the Iowa area, had a brand spankin’ new display of Healthy Steps utensils. I immediately wanted to throw them all in my cart because of their cute and happy green handles (yes, I’m silly like that) but then I realized something even MORE amazing. They’re serving-size utensils! Say wha? That’s right.

They have an entire line of products that make portion control easy! Out of their PC (portion control) line, I own the pasta baskets pictured below.

What I love about the Pasta Baskets: I am obsessed with pasta, and it’s a huge problem for portioning. I have absolutly no concept of what a “normal” size of pasta should be. I just throw in the whole box an go to town. ;) These handy little baskets are duel functioning.

  1. First step, you measure your dry pasta either using the basket (for loose noodles) or the small hole for long noodles. This should be one serving. (I was easily eating 3 servings before!)
  2. After the noodles have cooked, you can scoop them out and easily strain them with the basket! Love this.

A few of their products, from upper left going clockwise: Salt measurer, butter scoop that also has a blade on the opposite end for measuring stick butter, the Serving Set which includes a protien serving patula, carb/grain spoon and veggie slotted spoon, and the pasta baskets. I’m currently lusting after the serving set to make my mini-collection complete!

Along with their PC line, the also have same tools that are just plain cool and handy. I quickly snapped up their Tea Infuser in a heartbeat. I love to drink loose-leaf tea.

What I love about the Tea Infuser: It’s a great healthy option at the office. Drinking tea at work has drastically cut down my pop cravings. It’s fabulous! I just trow it in my purse in the morning. It even has a little push-handle to press the tea leaves. I love the length of the spoon-like infuser. It’s long enough to fit into my tall coffee mug to stir in some sweet honey or stevia!

Tea infuser, awesome water infuser, and avocado crazy tool. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve never done anything with avocados in my life, so I have no clue what to say about this tool. It looks to be a cutter/slicer/scooper/masher of some sort. :)

Bottom line? I love this company. No, I wasn’t paid to post this article – nor was I “perked.” That’s not how I roll. I contacted their people last week and was so excited they were willing to do this giveaway! I am a huge supporter of companies that try to make a difference with their products. If you have a few moments, please check out their website. They have fabulous recipes, TONS of product I didn’t mention, a healthy living advice blog, and a great company philosophy. :D

  • http://www.fitnesscheerleader.com Janice – The Fitness Cheerleader

I liked Healthy Steps’ Facebook Page!

    • Emily

I do to! I think they did a really nice job of putting everything together. It’s really fresh and easy to navigate :)

  • Lauren @ Fun, Fit and Fabulous!

These are possibly the coolest things I have ever seen! I always struggle with portion control so these super cute utensils would be perfect!!!

    • Emily

I am such a sucker for cute AND functional kitchen gadgets! :D Thanks for participating, Lauren! :)

  • http://fitblogger.ca Rita @ Fitblogger

Now that is entirely, frickin awesome! I’m all over that pasta basket too. What do you mean my oversized plate that won’t even fit in my dishwasher isn’t one serving size? Great find! (I will be invisible in giveaway land, I figure I get enough perks in my job ;) -share the love, right?)

    • Emily

Oh, you mean this SERVING bowl isn’t meant to be a personal-Emily-sized helping? DANG. ;)

      • http://fitblogger.ca Rita @ Fitblogger

LOL that was my cereal bowl!

  • http://evamadera.wordpress.com Jeni @ stepping out

I am such a nerd when it comes to kitchen utensils. I always want to buy more wooden spoons even though I have plenty, just because they look cute. :D

    • Emily

I think it’s absolutely necessary to own at least 10 wooden spoons. ;) They’re super cute and functional for EVERYTHING!!

  • http://simplyjaime.com Jaime

Hi Emily! Such exciting products… so exciting that you get to share them with your readers – both those along the journey with you and those supporting you on your journey!

Great review of the products too!

    • Emily

Hey Miss jamie!! :) I’m pretty excited, too – I have massive amount of respect and love for companies willing to promote their product with us Healthy Living Bloggers!

  • Katie Pauls

I have a recipe for avacado pound cake that I’ve been dying to try. This might be it ;)

Also, I love the baking aisle at HyVee. I almost always find something I “need” there.

    • Emily

Mmmm pound cake? That sounds delish! It’s true, that isle can be so seductive … ;)

  • http://www.runningknitwitmom.com Emily

How neat is that! I would LOVE the pasta baskets! My husband “guesses” at how much pasta is a serving, and I think it’s still too much. The portion plates would be great too. At our house I do not use the official “dinner” plates because they are seriously HUGE. We use the salad plates and use our dinner plates as serving plates. It has seriously cut down on how much I eat at meal time!

    • Emily

Using smaller plates is a GREAT idea, Emily! I used to do that and I feel like it definitely kept my serving sizes down. Why did I ever stop? Thanks for the reminder! :)

  • http://www.lizandnategordon.com Liz

Nate and I drool over these every time we go grocery shopping. We’re suckers for cool gadgets, matching sets, and good design and these are all three. Surprisingly, we haven’t actually bought any yet. Oh, and I practically lived off of avocados when I was in Mexico.

    • Emily

I knew you would love the design! :) You’ll have to teach me your avocado-ways. I am totally clueless when it comes to anything revolving around them.

  • http://www.way2goodlife.com Lena B

These things look so awesome. I’d love them all. And I drink tea like 5 times a day. Can I win. Please???

    • Emily

I’ll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you!! :) The people at Healthy Steps will be picking the winners – so don’t forget to love up their Facebook page!

  • http://www.neversaynever27.blogspot.com/ Samantha

I could really use that avocado slicer!! Especially after the stitches mishap!! All these products seem wonderful. So excited to enter this contest!!

    • Emily

Yay! glad you’re participating, Sam! They’re really reasonably priced too, for being so multi-functional :)

  • http://guessimarunner.com Lindsay @ The Reluctant Runner

Oh, how I miss HyVee! Those products are genius! Next time I visit Iowa (May!) I’m definitely going to get my butt to HyVee as fast as I can and buy them all!

    • Emily

There’s a helpful smile in every isle!! ;)

  • Rosemary

    Love ya!

    • Emily

Good Luck, friend!! :) Seriously, the pasta baskets are life savers! Plus, I forgot to mention they’re collapsible! so they take up practically no room

These products look so cool! I love pasta, too and have no idea how to measure it. I’ve mostly been avoiding it lately.

    • Emily

I think I might have to padlock my cupboard to avoid pasta!! :D

  • Kara Hall

My vise is pasta period. I would live off of it if I could.
I am excited about trying all of the products you listed.
I have thoroughly enjoyed your blog.

    • Emily

Thank you so much, Kara! Stop by often – I love getting feedback (good and bad!) :)

  • Erin

I would love the tea-infuser. I gave up pop/soda and I have only been drinking water and tea. It was hard to give up my Diet Dr. Pepper but I am glad I did! I haven’t seen these products down in Arizona but I guess I will start looking.

Keep writing about cool tools! I like learning about new websites, blogs, kitchen tools, and exercise programs.

  • Jen

Hi Emily! Just found your blog. Just in time for a giveaway, too, it appears!
I think the avocado thing is AWESOME. But the whole line is pretty nifty, even though I don’t think I can *ever* only eat one serving of pasta.

    • Emily

Ugh, tell me about it – pasta is officially my arch nemesis ;) I’m glad you stumbled across this giveaway! Don’t forget to post on their FB wall. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for ya!

  • http://mypracticallife.com Marla

I found your blog through a #fitblog tweet. I could really use the serving set. It would be nice to not have to use mesauring cups to measure out my food. I’m also thinking of ordering/stopping by ShopRite today to see if they have the pasta baskets. One less pot to clean? Yes, please.

    • Emily

Marla – I”m so glad you found this giveaway! Cool products, right? I’m with you on the pasta baskets – it’s nice to cook whole wheat for me, and white for my fiance in one pot! :D
