Welcome back from the weekend!

I spent a lot of time surrounded by boxes, which I suspect will be the norm for the next few weeks. Oh the joys of moving! Hopefully we don’t have to do that again for awhile. Although, it did do nice things for my biceps/triceps!

I had a pretty bittersweet moment Sunday morning. There we were, Foxy Fiance and I, sitting on the kitchen floor of our now empty apartment. I took a look around at the space; seemingly bigger than before. So many memories were made in that apartment. When we moved in two years ago, we had been together for two up-and-down years. We had left all our family and friends back in central Iowa, and were determined to live a life full of adventure. Boy, did we get what we asked for! Not two months later, we found out our Little One would soon be joining us. This was the apartment we brought her home to, where we first made a home for her. We’ve cried frustrated new-parent tears and cried overjoyed new-parent tears. This was the apartment I spent all day prepping for my first real interview, which would land me my first real job! So many memories. We are so thankful to now be living in a house, where Little One already awkwardly runs down the halls; plopping her feet on the hardwood floor and shrieking with delight. We also have a fenced in yard for her to explore. Life is good, and I’ve got a feeling it’s only going to get better!

August is going to be a changing month for me, I can feel it. We’re no longer stressed with moving, (although hello, two months till wedding!) and we can finally get back into some semblance of a routine. The orderly-task-maker-goal-charter side of me is geeking out today – don’t you just LOVE it when the beginning of the month starts on a Monday? I feel all fresh and sparkly inside :D New dawn, a new day, a new life, and I’m feeling gooooood . In honor of the new month, I’m introducing my new goal format. I used to set weekly goals, and while that works for a lot of people, I didn’t care much for it. I found myself repeating a lot of goals week after week. So at the beginning of each month, I’ll be posting my goals and beginning stats. Then we’ll review at the end!

You’re jumping out of your seats with excitement ;)

There will also be a new “stats page” set up on the top of the site sometime this week. I’m a chart geek at heart, so it’ll be my little zone to post all the nitty gritty numbers, for those of you who like looking at my fluctuating weight in bar graphs and inches lost. Feel free to point and laugh at my nerdness. I’m totally cool with that ;)

Current Weight : 262.2
How it feels : feeling run down. Ready to get OUT of the 60s
Goal loss* : Aiming for a 4lb loss this month

  1. Move 30min, everyday : this will definitely be a challenge, but I know that I can do it. I usually try to walk 15-20 minutes during lunch time, so as long as I get a measly 10 minutes outside of that – I will have met my goal! Our living room has a much better set-up for me to work out. I have an awesome Wii Fit Plus and many work-out DVD routines at my disposal. Getting up early and getting it done will be KEY for me.
  2. No eating out : I fell back into the nasty habit of “grabbing something on the go” when we were moving. It was somewhat understandable, but I don’t want it to become my lifestyle like it was when I was 310 lbs. I have this week’s menu planned out, and I intend to do it every week this month. Wish me luck!
  3. Thirsty Thursdays, everyday : last week I tweeted on Thursday about my goal to intake 130oz of H20. A lot of people responded positively, and said it was a good reminder for them as well! I would really love to keep myself in check every day on water. I know that when I’m hydrated I lose more weight, I feel better, I get fewer headaches, and I make better eating choices.
  4. Track like a Mo-Fo : tracking my exercising and eating is ESSENTIAL to my weight loss. When I stop holding myself accountable, the scale always goes up. If you are interested in tracking your progress, or want to follow mine, you can find me on a variety of websites. I’m a bit addicted, it’s true ;) Daily Mile (for running/walking), Lose It! (for food and all exercise.**), and the Go The Distance Challenge (with spreadsheet) that Robbie makes for us every month.

What do you think, friends?

Do you have any goals this month, fitness-related or otherwise? I’d love to hear them!

* I may not normally make weight-loss goals. When I do, it will be at a healthy loss rate of 1-2lbs per week.
** Lose it! doesn’t let us directly link to our profiles. If you’d like to see mine, just add me as a friend! Search FitandFreeEmily (at) gmail (dot) com.

Sounds like an awesome plan, friend! I definitely agree on the tracking thing. If I don’t track, I gain weight. Period.

Em, I think I need to have those same goals. They are very good goals to have. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about being healthier and how I really need to make that part of my life again. You inspire me to do that and I hope reading your blog more often will help me do this. We have a lot in common and I struggle with weight too as much as I hate to admit it. I need to try harder thats for sure…lets do it together :) LOVE YOU CUZ.

I love you too, cuz!! Yes, we can definitely do this together. I really REALLY recommend using that loseit.com site. I track all my calories and exercising there. It’s awesome and SO motivating. And free! ;) Now, you just need to move to Iowa City so we can do MORE healthy things together, right? hehe

Thanks for commenting, Al. I’m so glad you like my blog!

I don’t think you meant to say that tracking is detrimental to your weightloss, right? Just the opposite—it’s essential! :)

    • Emily

Oh my gosh Steph, Thanks! I don’t know where my brain was on that one. Fixed! :D
