… seems like once I get a footing on life, it throws another curveball.

Some of you may remember that my father in law was diagnosis with liver cancer (and cirrhosis of the liver) right before our wedding. He went through a liver transplant in November. It has definitely not been an easy road since then. Between finding the right medications, dealing with pain/depression/stubbornness, and sever memory issues, Adam’s family has been under a lot of stress.

This week he arrived in Iowa City (where we live and where his transplant occurred since we have one of the best hospitals in the United States) and was given more bad news. His body is rejecting the liver.

I don’t know many details other than it’s very serious (they think) the mortality rate is high (most of the time) and it’s not very treatable (unless it’s early, and then it is.) Can you feel my distrust of doctors? False hope or false panic is all they give it seems.

Of course, they told me mom was going to live a year and then she died practically overnight. So you know, it’s all very accurate. I understand medicine is a very gray area, but I prefer my life-altering news in black and white. You have this much time. You have reason to hope. You don’t have reason to hope. We can fix it. We can’t fix it.

For now, it’s all up in the air. There are seven people in my tiny house. I missed Zumba again last night (which I know sounds petty, but I was really really really looking forward to it.) I probably won’t be posting for a few days.

Much Love.
