It’s that time of year again! I’ve hopped on my treadmill and started dreaming about 5k races. I’m using the word “race” very loosely here. At 275lbs … well, let’s just hope my lungs don’t explode. ;)

Regardless, I signed up for my first (and probably only) Spring 2013 race! The Glow Run 5k in Des Moines, Iowa.

I posted last year about The Color Run, and what a blast it was. I’m thrilled to see more companies sponsor events like this! Why not make fitness fun and social? Plus, who doesn’t want to dance around in the dark all lit up in “Glow Spray?” They even hand out GLOWING MEDALS. Yup, I’m sold.

What is the Glow Run?

The Glow Run 5k Run/Walk event is a one of a kind night-time experience that is less about how fast you run and more about enjoying the music filled glowing course with your friends and family. For our events, we see participants of all different speeds, ages, shapes, and sizes ready to GLOW. So whether you are a casual walker or an avid runner The Glow Run 5k invites you to come be a part of the fun.

The After Party

Come for the 5K, but stay for the party, participants will enjoy one of the best glow parties ever assembled with thousands of glowing runners and walkers dancing the night away as local DJ’s keep the party going into the late night hours. Participants over the age of 21 will also be able to enjoy a beer garden* at the finish line plaza.

I’m so excited for this race! If you’re in the Des Moines area, I’d love to see you there!  Be sure to check out the website for more info on dates/locations/fees, etc. Since our little family is in a spending freeze this year, ( and I registered for this in late 2012) this will be my one and only race for 2013. I’m definitely okay with that. AND it’s the day after my 29th birthday. I think it’s meant to be, don’t you think? :D

    Hmmm, Neika and I may have to make the trip down for this one too :) I will show her the video and see what she thinks. Looks like fun! And if she doesn’t want to, maybe I’ll go myself. It’s not that long of a drive there! I saw on the FB page that there are only four cities at this point, so this one may be the closest one to us.

        Yeah, it’s a little less than 4 hours. Maybe I will just skip bringing Neika and and just make an adult run :) There is the option of beer after….

    My hubby and I ended up skipping the Glow Run last summer because we’d WAY over-booked ourselves this week. I’m hoping we can make it this year when it comes to KC again!

      From what I experienced at The Color Run, A LOT of people just walk/prance/skip/have fun. No running needed!!

    This is VERY tempting. I’ve never done a 5k, so starting out with a ‘fun’ one would probably be a good plan for me. I’ll have to see if I can talk any of my friends into signing up to do it with me — I may see you there!
