CONGRATS, Heather S! You’ve won! I’ve replied to the winner in the comments – scroll down to see if it’s you!
In a Monday slump? I hope this giveaway puts a little pep in your step. :)
I’ve been on a quest to eliminate some of the stress in my life this month. When I get stressed out, I eat anything and everything. Ahh the life of a recovering binge-eater. When I saw an opportunity to review Gaiam TV (oh yoga, I need you in my life!) I jumped at the chance. I’ve been enjoying Gaiam TV for the past month, and I’m excited to pass along the info (and a little swag) your way!
If you’ve ever wandered into the health/fitness section of any store, you’ve probably seen Gaiam’s products. They manufacture everything from dumbbells to yoga mats, and fitness DVDs to meditation soundtracks. In Gaiam’s words…
Gaiam (pronounced “guy-um”), is a fusion of the words “Gaia” and “I am” Gaia, mother Earth, was honored on the Isle of Crete in ancient Greece 5,000 years ago by the Minoan civilization. This civilization valued education, art, science, recreation, and the environment and believed that the Earth was directly connected to its existence and daily life. The concept of Gaia stems from the ancient philosophy that the Earth is a living entity. At Gaiam, we believe that all of the Earth’s living matter, air, oceans and land form an interconnected system that can be seen as a single entity. The word Gaiam represents planetary awareness, preservation and support of the interconnectivity of all living things. By nurturing, protecting and respecting our planet, its natural resources and its inhabitants, we enrich our own lives and those of future generations.
What is Gaiam TV?
A few months back, I applied for the opportunity to test out Gaiam’s online service – Gaiam TV. In exchange for my review and hosting a giveaway, Gaiam allowed me a 30 day membership to their site, and a new yoga mat. (More on the mat later)
In short, Gaiam TV is like Netflix for the spiritual enlightenment seekers. Sounds fancy, no? ;)
At first I thought it was just going to be an overabundance of yoga videos. Which, okay, is nice and all – but how many yoga videos does one person really need? I was really happy to find that their streaming-video library includes a large range of titles (thousands!), both in workouts and actual film categories. There’s yoga (or course), personal development, spirituality, metaphysics, health & wellness, and fitness.
Adam and I are huge documentary buffs (seriously, I’ve watched almost every single one on Netflix), so it was a nice treat to check out some more spiritual-based films.
And look who I found over in the fitness section …
That’s right! No need to buy Jillian’s DVDs – most of them on here on Gaiam TV to watch anytime you please! Which reminds me. I was a little bummed that I couldn’t find a way to stream Gaiam TV onto my Xbox, but I have been enjoying it on my Galaxy Tab! Doing a guided yoga in my backyard overlooking our pond? Perfection. Gaiam does seem to offer a few ways to stream, including Apple TV, Sony Playstation, Roku, Sony Blu Ray, or on an iPad/iPhone.
This was one of my favorite yoga routines – the CorePower Yoga!
How much does Gaiam TV cost?
$10 a month. Is it worth it? I go back and forth on it, to be honest. I really love being able to curate my own workout playlists, have access to a lot product that isn’t available elsewhere online, the mobility is nice, and there’s no ads to interrupt your flow. BUT, we run a fairly tight budget in the Fit and Free household. In the end, I might like to spend those $120 per year on something else.
It’s definitely one of those services that you’d have to be serious about using to make it worth it. But hey, they offer 10 days free, so you could always take it for a test-drive!
I probably will not be renewing my membership once my trial runs out, but I would love to hop back on for a few months as maybe a reward for hitting a fitness goal. I do appreciate that there’s no contracts, so it would be easy to utilize for a month here and there throughout the year, just to change things up!
Ready to win?
You made it to the good part, congrats! ;)
Gaiam is offering a 30 day membership + $60 for you to spend in their online store! Need new yoga gear? I did, too!
This is the mat I received, and I love it. Like LOVE love it. It’s extra thick, purple (hello!), and has decorative bands placed to help you hit your positions correctly. I’m in love, and so is the little one! This is her “triangle”, in her words. ;)
