Good morning!

My morning was filled with food prep, doing another load of laundry (ahh, the glamorous life!) and busting out some Jillian’s 30 Day Shred in my living room. The belt is still acting up on my treadmill (I suspect because it’s kept in the sub-zero garage), so I’m halted on my Couch to 5k running schedule.

In my vlog and post yesterday, I mentioned that I was stepping away from tracking calories. Instead, I’m focusing on tracking movement. I decided to stop actively tracking on My Fitness Pal, since I’m just using a basic spreadsheet to log my eating. Now I’m over on Daily Mile!

There’s something about this whole tracking mode that I’m really loving. I’m moving how I love to move, eating what makes my body feel good, and doing both with out over analyzing each part! I’m finding it incredibly motivating! It’s almost like … I’m allowing myself to take credit for my successes (and failures) instead of an external source. I have no system to fall back on, no faulty tracking gadget to blame. Just me. That would have terrified me in the past, but for now … I’m embracing it! :D

I also mentioned that I am starting a new book, thanks to my lovely friend Calee (Life + Running). I’ve had several people/doctors/therapists recommend this book as a great way to start learning and rebuilding self-trust.

Intuitive Eating

Here’s the description from Shelfari:

First published in 1995, Intuitive Eating has become the go-to book on rebuilding a healthy body image and making peace with food. We’ve all been there—angry with ourselves for overeating, for our lack of willpower, for failing at yet another diet. But the problem is not us; it’s that dieting, with its emphasis on rules and regulations, has stopped us from listening to our bodies. Written by two prominent nutritionists, Intuitive Eating will teach you:
• How to reject diet mentality forever
• How our three Eating Personalities define our eating difficulties
• How to find satisfaction in your eating
• How to feel your feelings without using food
• How to honor hunger and feel fullness
• How to follow the ten principles of ”Intuitive Eating”
• How to achieve a new and safe relationship with food and, ultimately, your body

Does it sound like something that resonates with you? Want to read it with me? I’m planning on doing a short “This Week with Intuitive Eating” segment at the end of my Motivation Monday posts, with a final review on Monday, Feb 11th. Just in time for Valentine’s Day! What better way to celebrate loving yourself, right? :D

If you’d like to read along, please do! I’m not doing any kind of formal “book club,” but please tweet, instagram, and FB post what you’re thinking! Make sure to use the tag #FitandFreeBOOK and @fitandfreeEmily so we can all discuss and interact together!

I feel like I track to verify I’m on track… I don’t necessarily worry about falling into the calorie/fat categories, but I can’t let go of that. or maybe I’m just not wiling to. I like to be able to look back and see what worked for me when I had progress. I’ll be following this along, I’m curious to see how it works for you! I’m looking forward to seeing your progress :)

I’m a tracker at heart, too. The amount of spreadsheets I have is INSANE. haha! Thanks for the positive vibes – I’m interested to see where this goes! :)

I love that you’re still tracking what you eat because there is importance to that if you’re getting past an eating disorder and trying to figure out what your triggers are for things, as well as if you’ve got stomach issues. I threw it all out the window because I’ve never done that before. We’ll see! :)

Thanks, friend. I do think it’s super important to figure out what my triggers are. I’ve been recording all my food, weight, and mood. Hoping that bringing this to my new doctor will also help figure out any issues!

agreed. i hope that your new doc can help you figure out what’s going on. i think something beyond your control is going on here too.
